As agents, prospecting is usually the task we dread the most. Cold calls, door knocking, or chatting up strangers can feel awkward. But if we’re honest, it’s also essential for growing our business.

If fear or anxiety has been holding you back, here are three tips to make prospecting feel easier and more natural.

1. Bring value to the call. No one wants to talk to a stranger for no reason. That’s why it helps to lead with value. Share something useful right away, like an update on local home prices or neighborhood trends. When you position yourself as a helpful resource, people are much more likely to listen.

2. Be yourself. People can instantly spot a “salesy” tone or robotic script. Use a script as your guide, but make it your own. Breathe, relax, and let your natural personality show. The more genuine you sound, the better your calls will go.

3. Don’t fear failure. Most calls won’t turn into appointments, and that’s okay. Prospecting is a numbers game. One of my favorite sayings is “Go for no.” Each rejection gets you one step closer to a yes. Keep your mindset positive and celebrate the small wins; they add up fast.

Remember that practice makes progress. The more you do it, the easier it becomes. It’s a good strategy to partner with another agent, role-play your calls, and build your confidence together.
